Our Michigan Steinway Concert &
Artist Division has stayed very busy this summer!
The
artistry of world-renowned pianist and Steinway Artist Jeffrey
Siegel became a highlight this summer with his brilliant performance of
an all Gershwin program with the DSO at the Meadowbrook Festival,
one of
the most beautiful outdoor festivals in the region. Mr. Siegel used
Steinway & Sons CD265.

Henry Ford Hospital West Bloomfield
Partners with Steinway Piano Gallery to Promote Music & Wellness.
In
August, Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital and the Steinway Piano
Gallery hosted a series of afternoon concerts in the lovely Ravitz Main
Atrium, titled Lunch with Steinway, much to the enjoyment of patients
familes
and Henry Ford hospital staff. The recitals, featured our own Brian
Sampson, students of Sonia Geoffrey, the Cliff Monear Jazz Trio and Steinway Artist Dr. Louis Nagel peforming on our
newest Steinway Model D Concert Grand Piano.
The
Henry & Clara Ford Art-Case Steinway Piano was also on prominent
display during the two-week event at the Henry Ford Hospital. This
one-of-a-kind, handcrafted art case player grand piano is a true piece
of American
history and craftsmanship. Steinway Piano Gallery arranged for the
piano to be on site direct from the Henry Ford Museum at the Fairlane
Estate in
Dearborn. Photos of this masterpiece of marquetry and our
Lunch with Steinway concert series are viewable on our Facebook page.
State of the Art Player Pianos
Come to Steinway Piano
Gallery
We
just received the latest in music technology and
style: The Story & Clark pianos with Pianomation…the piano that
plays itself! You may know the name as a trusted manufacturer of
quality
pianos, and now they’ve adapted their grands and verticals to the 21st
century with computer-connected learning for the student,
automated notation for the composer and the next generation of player
systems for the piano enthusiast. We will be holding demonstrations
several
times this month, so keep an eye on our events calendar for upcoming
dates.
Our Basement and Tent Sale was a big
success!
Did
you see the big tent in our parking lot during the
weekend of August 28-30? We stocked it full of sheet music, benches,
lamps, speakers and some very old pianos recently taken in on trade. We
filled
our basement with an enormous number of high quality pianos recently
traded for Steinways. We priced everything to move and move it did! The
public
had a chance to purchase great pianos at special prices, and now we
have the space to bring in some exciting new inventory.
Don’t
miss a thing! Follow us on Twitter and Facebook to stay up to
date on the many concerts, master classes and educational offerings
here at the Steinway Piano Gallery. You may also sign up to receive
occasional
email updates about events such as the Jazz Café and Saturdays with
Steinway, by visiting our website at steinwaymichigan.com.

Maple Arts Academy Open House at Steinway Piano Gallery showcases
art opportunities for the whole
family.
Local families enjoyed an evening of fun with art and music at the
Maple Arts Academy’s Open House on August 5. Music instructors Ann Chen and Nicholas Toben gave a moving
recital, the YAK Academy
taught us a few new Spanish phrases, we
made art projects with Abrakadoodle, and we even stretched our bodies
with Yoga and Piyo instructors! If you missed it, don’t worry –
you can find out what’s in store for the Fall Program online at mapleartsacademy.com.
Full House at Steinway Piano Gallery for Private
Note-By-Note Screenings.
Twice
in August our Recital Hall became a private theatre for a
screening of the independent and award winning documentary Note by Note
– this fascinating film by director Ben Niles took us on the year long
journey of Steinway Concert Grand Piano number L1037 from the Alaskan
forest floor to Carnegie Hall in New York. Guests enjoyed a short
recital
afterward on the very piano made in this film! See pictures here. To get the word about events like this, simply visit our website and become a Steinway Insider at steinwaymichigan.com.
The 30th Annual Detroit International Jazz Festival was

Jones, Geri
Allen and many more of today’s greatest jazz artists! The celebration
took place from Sept 4 to 6 – more info at detroitjazzfest.com.

The Steinway Patent of the
Month
Did you know…
This month in the year 1934 Steinway
developed the Duplex Piano Scale, which gives today’s grand piano its geometrical design. This allows for greatly increased string length and more harmonic overtones, which makes for the rich
“Steinway sound” and the prolonged sustain, or the seemingly never-ending resonance when you play a note. Just another
reason why “a Steinway is a Steinway and there is nothing like it in the world” (Arthur
Rubenstein).
